I Am War
my ears have just been exposed to ‘I Am War’, the new side project from Atreyu’s Alex Varkatzas and Bleeding Through’s Brandan Schieppati
and it’s good. reminds me of early Hatebreed. some nice driven, short, sharp, angry yelling for a couple of minutes at a time.
announced on the Atreyu facebook page, Varkatzas describes I Am War as “fast, short, aggressive, bursts of hardcore metal and punk”
at time of writing this, there are a half a dozen demo tracks up on I Am War’s myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/iamwarband
if you like any of the bands i’ve mentioned in this post, go have a listen. you wont regret it.

“people worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss”
High Fidelity (Nick Hornby)
Listening to a band called ‘Hold On St Christopher’
They sound like a cross between The Weakerthans, Death Cab For Cutie, Snow Patrol and Mogwai, with just a little Modest Mouse thrown in for good measure.
Plus they have not one but two trombone players (trombonists?) and a squeezebox, so bonus points for that.
If you like epic staging music that would acompany long drives through destered landscapes at night, with triumphant uplifting brass acompanyment, they’re well worth a listen.
PIAS And AIM Set Up Donation Fund For Labels Affected By Enfield Fire →
RockSound details what’s being done and how you can help
from [PIAS]’s press release:
Labels and artists affected by the destruction of the Sony DADC warehouse are faced with incredible pressures on their businesses in respect to the re-manufacture, re-supply and marketing required as a result of the fire. Whilst it is expected that insurance will cover the lost stock, the reality for many labels is that they will not be compensated or insured for an interruption of trade or the additional capital to reproduce the stock that they have lost and the promotion in which they have invested.
